Gaming Laptop Maintenance Checklist — Keep FPS High in 2026
Six checks every gaming-laptop owner should do quarterly to prevent thermal throttling and GPU failure.
Gaming laptops run hot by design. Ahmedabad's climate makes them run hotter. Here's the quarterly checklist we recommend for every gaming laptop that comes through our lab.
1. Thermal repaste every 12 months. Stock paste dries out fast in Indian conditions. Fresh Kryonaut or MX-6 drops temps 10-15°C.
2. Clean the fans and heatsinks every 6 months. Full disassembly, not just a blower from outside.
3. Undervolt your CPU. Free performance and lower temps. Use ThrottleStop for Intel, Ryzen Master for AMD.
4. Elevate the laptop and use a cooling pad. Bare minimum for gaming sessions over 2 hours.
5. Cap FPS to what your monitor supports. No point rendering 300 FPS on a 165 Hz panel — it just heats the GPU.
6. Watch your battery. Gaming plugged-in for years bloats batteries. Bring for check-up if you notice trackpad lift.
